Succeeding through automation

The Swiss Ministry of Health negotiates volume and value-based drug pricing agreements with drug manufacturers. Healthcare payers are responsible for the execution of the agreements with the manufacturers. As of 2022, these agreements spanned more than 20 healthcare payers. Overall, there are more than 140 individual drug-pricing agreements of which more than 40 were added since 2020. On a yearly basis, more than 50 thousand rebate-relevant patient cases must be tracked. The Swiss Federal Ministry of Health estimates the overall administrative cost at CHF 32 million per year for Swiss payers to manage all drug-pricing agreements.
